Plan of St. Mary's Church
Like most churches St. Mary's has been considerably changed and adapted over time. Although the present church was mostly built in the 12th and 13th centuries it was built on the site of an earlier church which was probably also cruciform in shape. This earlier church was built in the first half of the 11th century. Some of the various building phases of the church can be seen below.
